The Necklace that Failed to Grace the Neck

The Necklace that Failed to Grace the Neck

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder!
Lo! Behold! this pale grey glistening lace caught the protagonist’s eye!
She had to have it , if so a hefty price.

Joy sparked gleefully past the customer’s eye.
Easy ! Heck !
The seller swiftly read the buyer’s mind.

Promises of its value,
in authenticity, strength, unique design;
Admiration from others!
Shall all come to be.
So ready to believe,
for she didn’t want to leave ,
without it .

Excitement palpable,
Desire satiated,
Necklace packed and tucked ,
For an exciting day in stock .

What could go wrong then ?
When the muse is ready,
Destination set,
Or future that gleams steady like the rock .

She is startled !
Shocked !
The rug gets pulled off!
You deceived me !
You the promise of a beautiful future!
In just a few days you turned sour.

Future becomes present , instantaneously!
And ugly!
She is dressed , but the necklace;
That glistening piece of lace,
Loses a link and falls thoughtlessly ,
From that graceful neck.
Useful no more , beauty benign!

Many a time roads diverge,
Many a time definitive feels just a disguise.
If so , be it so!

She had little time to mourn the moment.
Nothing heavy but made light of the situation.

The car honks outside,
She leaves hurriedly wearing whatever lay by her side.
A second option awaits in life.
“Something better than nothing” says the wise.

She grabs a chain with a circular pendant,
It sits just right, it feels just right.
It’s just an ornament,
It’s just a situation,
It’s just a moment.

Life continues to be.
Why sit heavy .
The river continues to flow.
Why then get stuck and feel low.

Either way , one day you and me,
We shall diminish to be.
Life never promises a lifetime.
The car honks everyday.
New options prevail everywhere.

Grab and go,
Whichever necklace lay before .
Attend the party,
Before the party stalls.
Before options remain no more.

Life never promises a lifetime,
Flow like the river,
Meander,
If not this necklace, wear another!
